CND Shellac EA Kayley Cairns - Brentwood

I have to confess, if anyone had told me when I left school that I would become involved in the nail industry I would have laughed out loud-that was for people who didn’t do well in school wasn’t it?!
Well I soon learnt how wrong I was about that!

I always had a desire to teach- having worked in childcare for years I thought I would continue along that route to teaching at primary level.
After seeing me polish my own nails my sister in law began asking me to do hers regularly too, I didn’t mind but never expected to enjoy it as much as I did, each time I did it I loved it more!
Keen to learn how to do it ‘properly’ I enrolled on a beauty course at my local college to gain my manicure and pedicure qualification, this was required by them to do their full nail services course which I wanted to do too.
After completing my beauty course I began hunting around online for equipment when I stumbled on Salongeek.
From there I was guided to CND, where I completed my Signature 5 Foundation course.

I learnt more about nails on the first 2 days with my educator Justine Crick then I did completing the mani/pedi modules on my beauty course, I was amazed at how much there was to take in and learn!

I became obsessed with all things nail related, so when I heard about ‘The Event’ run by Sweet Squared I just had to be there!

That was when Shellac was launched, it was a weekend of education, inspiration and being surrounded by people as enthusiastic as I was… my favourite moment was Kristina Estabrooks wrapping off the Shellac demo in front of us… the nail had been wrapped for 10 minutes and as she pulled the wrap off, the nail was bare again- the whole room gasped and clapped in delight! It was clear then that something big was going to change in the nail world and I was excited to be at the beginning of it!

Just after that weekend I became self-employed working mobile, the word was quickly getting around about Shellac and it was selling out worldwide. I was very lucky I’d stocked up at ‘The Event’ so was one of very few techs able to offer it in my area.

As a result I became busy Shellac’ing… my business grew overnight and I felt incredibly lucky to have launched myself into the industry at such a revolutionary time, for a new business I couldn’t have got off to a better start.
Since then Shellac is my business, probably 80% of what I do. I love it- Really!

I’m now on my CND masters route with L+P and my goal for the year ahead will be to achieve Grand Master Status and then long term, who knows!?
I would LOVE to become a full EA for CND one day, every Shellac class I do just leaves me buzzing, I enjoy sharing my love of Shellac and hope that I inspire the people I work with even half as much as I was inspired on my first course and each one I have done since.

I’m a happy, positive person and I love inspiring quotes, one of my favourites at the moment is:
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
