Katrina Kneebone - Plymouth
I first started my career as a Nail technician at 16 (1991). I had gone into a salon to have my nails done, I watched the girl applying my nails and thought wow, I’d love to be able to do this. As I left the salon, I left my telephone no and asked for them to call me if they ever needed a new apprentice. I told them I had enrolled on a beauty course in 6 weeks time but I wouldn't mind doing nails. Two weeks later they called me and I went for a trial, I loved it and never did enrol on that beauty course. I was always grateful for my start but when I became 19 I knew I didn't know enough about nails, so I left the salon and started to work for myself. I contacted Designer nails (Gigi), firstly she helped me with my products and then we discussed education, she was so interesting, I knew at that point, that in order to be a good nail technician, I needed to learn more, so I started my masters. In 1997 I became the 1st master in Plymouth. I loved the education and I knew it made such a difference to my nails, my clients loved them. I never wanted to be a salon owner, I didn't want have all the hassle of staff but I wanted to be more than a nail tech, more than a master, I wanted to be an Ambassador. I wanted to pass on what I knew and enjoyed to others, my passion for nails. In 2000 I completed my Bootcamp with Gigi and Samuel and I can honestly say it’s been such an amazing journey. What I love about CND, is that it gives me confidence to know that I will always produce a great set of nails, I also know that when I’m teaching my students I have confidence with my knowledge and skills that they too will become good nail techs, I look at some of my students success, with their salons and staff and it makes me feel proud that I was there right at the start, right there to put them on their very own paths to success. I have had great opportunities with CND, I have worked backstage at fashion week in London and Milan, and I have also enjoyed working trade shows, advising students on products and education. I have been able to work alongside some of the most great and talented people at CND, some that have been my mentors and some that have simply been and will always be my good friends. I would like to say my strength is to try and help others, when people come into my classroom, I like to make them feel at ease, make sure everybody feels important and to understand and know that we all have different capabilities and we all learn differently. I will always adapt myself to other people’s needs as I remember how I felt when I 1st walked into a classroom. One of the best awards for me was when we won 'Best Education' at the beauty awards. It wasn't a personal award but a team award. I stood on stage with my fellow colleagues and I felt so proud to belong to such a team. This was a team that others aspire to be, and I was part of it. It felt like we had won the Oscars, well in my mind we did!!! We then won again in 200? My favourite music has got to be the 80s, a little bit of Bananarama and Nick Kershaw, I love it!! I also like chart music and I’m quite into Lady gaga at the moment. My favourite movies are ' True Romance ' and the latest film '17 again' with Zac Efron, well girls what can I say, ooh to be 17 again!! My favourite food has got to be a good old Sunday roast dinner with apple crumble for desert, yum! Coolest place I have ever been to has got to be Las Vegas and one thing I would like to do before I pop my clogs has got to be, is to walk the great wall of China for charity ( meningitis trust fund)... Watch this space!! My favourite quote has to be ' Treat people the way you like to be treated yourself ' My key to success is to be open minded, and be keen to learn, you can never stop learning..... Creative Academy Plymouth and Bristol I hold classes of 8 in both Plymouth and Bristol. Redwood Hotel, Beggar Bush Lane off Junction 19 (Gordano services) on the M5. I am currently hiring The Novotel, Marsh Mills, Plymouth which is as soon as you come off the A38 for Plymouth (at Sainsbury) it’s the 3rd exit on the Marsh Mills roundabout. Classrooms hold 8 girls and there are restaurant facilities and of course Sainsbury’s across the road but always feel free to bring a packed lunch.
