The Hygiene Habits Every Wax & Lash Pro Should Follow
4th Mar 2026

Hygiene isn’t optional in our industry, it’s essential. The good news? It’s not complicated. With clear systems and consistent habits, maintaining exceptional standards becomes second nature.
At wax:one and LASHUS, cleanliness always comes first. Below, we’ve clearly separated hygiene best practices for waxing and lash therapists, so you can ensure every treatment meets the highest standard.
WAX TREATMENT HYGIENE TIPS
Preparation is everything. Before your client is even on the couch, your hygiene checklist should already be underway:
- Choose a cleanable or disposable surface (plastic/disposable couch cover with couch roll is ideal).
- Clean and disinfect the treatment bed between every client.
- Ensure tweezers and scissors are fully sanitised and disinfected, we recommend Mundo Power Plus Ultra.
- Wash and sanitise hands before and after every appointment. Our favourite is Mundo Sanitizing Hand Gel.
Clean space. Clean tools. Clean hands. Every time.

During the Waxing Treatment
✔ Wear Gloves - For ALL Waxing
Not just intimate waxing, all waxing. Gloves protect both you and your client and reinforce professional standards.
✔ Cleanse the Skin
Always cleanse the skin with wax:one Clean before any waxing treatment. This removes oils, bacteria, and product build-up.
✔ Strictly NO Double Dipping
Cross contamination is one of the biggest risks in waxing.
We practice the below:
- Use disposable wooden spatulas only.
- Remember: “Onto the skin - then into the bin.”
- Never place a used applicator back into the wax pot.
✔ Post Hair Removal
Continue wearing gloves to apply wax:one Smooth to soothe and protect the skin.
After the Waxing Treatment
- Advise clients not to touch or scratch the treated area for 24 hours.
- Remove excess wax from heaters using wax:one Equipment Cleaner.
- Disinfect heaters with a surface disinfectant, we love Mundo Multi Surface Disinfectant Spray.
- Empty all bins.
Top Tip: Apply equipment cleaner using a waxing strip, it won’t break down into fibres like cotton wool.
LASH TREATMENT HYGIENE TIPS
Lash services require even greater attention to hygiene due to the delicate eye area.
Before the Treatment
- Use a cleanable or disposable couch cover and replace couch roll between clients.
- Disinfect your treatment bed and surrounding surfaces thoroughly.
- Sanitise tweezers correctly using Mundo Power Plus Ultra.
- Wash and sanitise hands before and after every client using Mundo Sanitising Hand Gel.
Organisation and visible cleanliness immediately build client confidence.

✔ Cleanse Lashes Thoroughly
Use LASHUS Eye Make-Up Remover & Cleanser before beginning any lash service. Proper cleansing removes makeup, oils, and debris that can harbour bacteria.
✔ Use Single-Use Disposables
- Disposable Mascara Wands
- Micro Brushes
- Under-eye Pads
- Sponge Tip Applicators
Anything that touches the client should be single-use wherever possible.
✔ Maintain Personal Hygiene
- Avoid touching your face, hair, or phone during treatment.
- Change gloves if contamination occurs.
- Keep long hair tied back.
After the Lash Treatment
- Dispose of all single-use items immediately.
- Clean and disinfect tweezers and tools thoroughly.
- Disinfect all surfaces.
- Empty bins.
Encourage clients to avoid touching or rubbing their lashes and to maintain proper lash cleansing at home.
WHY HYGIENE MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK
Hygiene doesn’t just protect skin and eyes, it protects your reputation.
Consistent hygiene builds client confidence and reassures them that they are in safe, professional hands. It encourages repeat bookings and word-of-mouth recommendations because clients are far more likely to return to, and recommend, a salon where they feel comfortable and protected.
